Laboratory for genetic and molecular research of UzhNU collaborates with the most powerful scientific and technical institutions of the world
The laboratory for molecular and genetic research was founded at the Faculty of Biology of UzhNU in 2017. In the long run, it had to become the basis for genetic diagnostics, therefore UzhNU established cooperation with the Chinese partners - an agreement on educational and scientific cooperation between UzhNU and BGI, Beijing Genomics Institute, one of the world's leading institutions in the area of genomics, was signed at the International Innovation Market Forum. Uzhhorod National University initiated the creation of a powerful academic and scientific alliance, which invited Ukrainian and European universities to work together with the Beijing Genomics Institute to develop one of the most important contemporary sciences.
In 2018, during the visit of the rector of UzhNU Volodymyr Smolanka to Beijing Genomics Institute, one of the two most powerful scientific and technological institutions in the world engaged in research in the field of genetics and genomic bioinformatics, they reached the the agreement on the foundation of the first Center for Genomic Research in Central Europe at Uzhhorod National University.
The head of the Department of Zoology of UzhNU, Candidate of Biological Sciences Fedir Kurtyak emphasizes that the opening of the laboratory of genetic and molecular research is also important for the educational process: "At the moment, the laboratory is actively used for the karyological study of some rare species of ichthyofauna, the study of the acarofauna, and these experiments are an excellent basis for writing modern, high-level students’ thesis. In the lab, students carry out their laboratory works in histology, biology of individual development, zoology, etc. It means than the laboratory is successfully used not only for genomic research, but it’s open to students and anyone who needs to conduct some experiments."
