Lyudmyla Symochko represented UzhNU at the international conference in Belgium
An International Conference “Microbes without Frontiers”, held in Brussels, Belgium on October 18, 2019, focused on general and environmental microbiology as well as microbial ecology.
The scientists focused their attention on the mechanisms of adaptation of microorganisms to environmental stressors, climate change and their impact on microorganisms, the spread of antibiotic resistant microorganisms, the use of microorganisms in modern technological processes in order to improve bioproductivity of ecosystems. The conference was initiated and organized by the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts (Belgium) and the Belgian Society for Microbiology. The leading scientists from the United States of America, Italy, Japan, France, Germany, Switzerland, and China participated in the assembly. Ukraine was represented by the Associate Professor of the Department of Entomology and Conservation of Biodiversity, the Faculty of Biology, Senior Researcher at Molecular Microbiology and Immunology Research Institute, Lyudmyla Symochko. She presented her report "The Impact of Climate Change on Soil Microbiome and Its Activity", where she collected the results of her research into soil microbiome dynamics of different types of ecosystems. In total, more than 250 scientists from 9 countries participated in the conference.
At the end of the event, conference participants had a B2B format discudssion, where they were able to talk about current global trends in general and environmental microbiology, as well as about possible areas for international cooperation.
