On Monday, October 7, 2019, a meeting with the representatives of the Hungarian government and Hungarian diplomats took place at the Ukrainian-Hungarian Educational and Scientific Institute of UzhNU. UzhNU was represented by the Acting Rector Oleksandr Slyvka, Vice-Rectors Myroslava Lendel and Dmytro Soyma, the Director of the Institute Oleksandr Shpenyk, and the Director of the Information and Publishing Center Vasyl Ilnytskyi. The Hungarian delegation was represented by the Secretary of State for the National Polcy Arpad Janos Potapi, Consul General of Hungary in Uzhhorod Józef Bugailo, and Consul General of Hungary in Berehovo Matyas Szilagyi.
The meeting was dedicated to tragic events in the history of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-1849 - the execution of the thirteen generals of the Hungarian army in the city of Arad, who headed military resistance against the Russian and Austrian troops. The event took place 170 years ago on October 6, 1849.
The guests were shown around the Ukrainian-Hungarian Educational and Scientific Institute during their visit. It’s worth mentioning that significant financial support has been provided by the Hungarian Government to the Insitute. In his welcome speech, the Acting Rector of UzhNU Oleksandr Slyvka said: “Our cooperation is not limited to conversations and round tables. It resulted in improving the quality of educational services provided to the students of the Ukrainian-Hungarian Educational and Scientific Institute. We hope that this cooperation will continue in the future.”
