Paralympic fencers returned from the European Championship with gold
Recently we reported that our paralympic fencers were leaving for the European Fencing Championship in Italy, and now we are happy to inform you about their marvelous results - 4 gold medals won by two fencers! We sincerely congratulate the winners, Nadiya Dyolog, a graduate of the Faculty of Social Sciences of UzhNU, and Maksym Mahula, a student of the Faculty of Health and Physical Education of UzhNU, as well as their trainers, Emilia Madyar-Fazekash, a senior lecturer of the Departmant of Physical Education of UzhNU, a coach of the Transcarpathian Regional Center of Physical Culture and Sports for the Disabled "Invasport" and Oksana Rapynets, a coach of "Invasport", as well as the whole team, which came 2nd in the team ranking! 21 participants won 16 medals!
The teams from 12 countries participated in the competition. The participants competed in three categories depending on the degree of physical disability (A, B, C). At Paralympics, athletes compete in three disciplines: the foil, the epee and the sabre. Transcarpathia was represented by two athletes - members of the National Team of Ukraine - Nadiya Dyolog and Maksym Mahula. Nadiya won the gold medal in the team ranking in the sabre and came third in the personal ranking in the sabre. Maksym took two third places in the sabre and the epee. The team is improving steadily, last year, the representatives of Transcarpathia won only one medal in the World Championship.
During the next two weeks our athletes will be preparing for the Championship of Ukraine, which will be held in Koncha-Zaspa, Kyiv. After the competition, our athletes will stay in Kyiv to prepare for the first qualifying competitions of the World Cup, which will be held in Georgia.
