Representatives of UzhNU took part in the conference "Sustainable development of Transcarpathia: from strategy to specific actions"

On Wednesday, November 28, 2018, the conference "Sustainable development of Transcarpathia: from strategy to specific actions" took place at UzhNU. UzhNU scientists became co-organizers of the event initiated by the United Nations Development Program, the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and the Transcarpathian Regional Council. The purpose of the conference was to discuss the priority directions of sustainable development of Transcarpathia and develop mechanisms for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals at the regional level. At the beginning of the conference, the participants were welcomed by the UNDP regional coordinator in the Transcarpathian region Lubov Pavlovych, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis and the deputy head of the Regional State Administration Viktor Mykulin.

 The head of the Resource Center for Sustainable Development of UzhNU, associate professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communications Hanna Melyhanych noted in her speech: "The University has been collaborating with UNDP for a long time, we always join such events. The researchers of the university are among the first in Transcarpathia, who began to talk about the Sustainable Development Goals, therefore we couldn’t avoid taking part in the organization of this event, most speakers are from our university. This year we conducted an essay competition "What can I do for my native land / my hometown / community?" It is very pleasant that the students of different faculties actively took part in the competition and we have selected the best essays in 5 nominations." The winners of the competition of essays were awarded with valuable gifts and certificates.

 The conference was organized in a form of 5 panel discussions. The topics discudded included the development of human and social capital, the development of cross-border and interregional cooperation, the formation of competitiveness and innovation, the integrated development of rural and urban areas and the principle of sustainable development in the use of natural resources.
