The ninth International Scholarly Conference "Transcarpathian legal readings" started at the Faculty of Law of Uzhhorod National University on April 20, 2017. It brought together the leading scholars in the field of law from Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.

In his welcome speech, the Rector of UzhNU Professor Volodymyr Smolanka stressed the great importance of the event, as the participants of the conference were planning to cover the scientific legal issues of international importance in their reports, which were vital in the context of building a common European legal environment and Ukraine's place in it. Another positive aspect of the conference, according to the Rector, was the opportunity for the young legal scholars, making their first steps in research, to participate in it along with the prominent scientists.
The chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis, an MP of Ukraine, Associate Professor of UzhNU Valeriy Patskan, the Deputy Director of the Legislation Institute of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Doctor of Legal Sciences Artem Yanchuk and a member of Rector's Collegium of Charles University in Prague, Prof. Jan Blahoslav Lasek wished every success and fruitful work to the participants of the conference.

"By organizing "Transcarpathian legal readings" we aim to get together our colleagues from different universities, with whom we have been closely collaborating in academic and scientific spheres and implementing joint projects for a long time. It's a great impetus to further successful scientific work and exchange of ideas on various brances of jurisprudence, - said the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Uzhhorod National University Professor Yaroslav Lazur. - We hope that the ideas expressed at the conference will find their practical application in the legislative process, which is particularly relevant today, in the period of legal reforms in Ukraine. The peculiarity of our readings is that we pay great attention to cooperation with our European partners. Transcarpathia due to historical, geographical and mental factors has always been a kind of locomotive of the European integration of Ukraine. Therefore, It's extremely important for us to show to our colleagues from the neighboring countries that we are a stable and promising European region and we are going to learn from their experience of building the state governed by the rule of law and demonstrate our best practices to them."
The International Conference of Lawyers in Uzhhorod lasts for three days and finishes on Saturday, April 22, 2017.
