Educational Scientific Institute of European Integration Studies was established in 2006 as a structural unit of Transcarpathian State University. Since July 2013 in connection with the reorganization of TSU and its joining to Uzhgorod National University – it has become an integral part of UzhNU.

The main objectives of the Institute

• systematic study of basic geostrategic orientations of Ukraine, the state of European integration government priorities implementation in the context of multilevel foreign policy;
• complex research of the topics: "Current problems of Ukraine's Foreign Policy in a Global modernity", "Geopolitics of Ukraine: History and Modernity", "European Integration: Ukrainian dimension"; "Euro-regional cooperation of Ukraine";
• scientific development, publication and  curriculum implementation of textbooks and teaching aids of  new generation on issues of European integration of Ukraine and foreign policy of Ukraine in the context of globalization.

To perform  the most basic tasks the Institute coordinates and cooperates with:

• The Departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine;
• National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine;
• National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine;/president/president-sponsored
• Transcarpathian Oblast State Administration and the Transcarpathian Regional Council;
• Higher Education Institute Education of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine;
• Migration Service of the State Committee of Ukraine for Nationalities and Migration Administration;
• Regional Branch of the National Institute for Strategic Studies in Uzhgorod;
• Institute of transboundary cooperation;
• Research institutes that are included in Research and Training Centre for Social and Political Studies of UzhNU and other structures.

Scientific-Research work

In 2007-2013 The Institute was twice the winner of research projects competitions, announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for scientific research with public funding.

Today the Institute is working on the implementation of fundamental research "Conceptual and institutional foundations of Euro-regional cooperation of Ukraine in terms of integration and globalization processes of modernity", the completion  report will be produced later this year.

Prepared reasonable request to perform the following fundamental study on "Criteria development for evaluating the effectiveness of upgrading Social Policy of Ukraine in the context of the European Union", which is now under scientific expertise( as a member of the second round of competitive research projects) in the Ministry of Education of Ukraine.

The Institute is  aimed at research results implementation into the learning process, in particular through the writing of textbooks and teaching aids of new generation. The Institute has edited two training complexes.

The first educational and methodical complex contains 18 textbooks, anthologies, reference books (glossary), training manuals, 11 of them were approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine "Recommended as a textbook for university students." Collections of research papers on the materials of thematic international scientific conferences, "round tables" that were conducted by the Institute amplified the complex.

The second educational-methodical complex was formed by collective monograph "Cross-border cooperation in the European integration strategy of Ukraine", "Integration into the European educational space: achievements, problems and prospects", "Philosophy of integration", "Models and mechanisms of Euro-regional cooperation between Ukraine" and manuals "The conceptual and legal basis for the formation of the European educational space" under the general editorship of F.Vaschuk  and V..Luhovyi. The latest edition also has a corresponding approval by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

"Ukrainian dimension of European integration" (author - Director of the Institute I.Artomov) in the category "Best Educational edition of Social and Human Sciences» due to the results of the All-Ukrainian competition "University Book - 2010 " has won the 2^nd place, which proved the high qualification competence of all Institute editions. In addition, The TSU was awarded a gold medal in the International Exhibition - "Education and Career - 2011" for the creation and implementation of teaching methods of new generation, developed by the Institute. This area has received positive feedback from the Minister of Education of Ukraine D.Tabachnyk during the familiarization with university exhibition stand (see photo).

Testing results of   scientific research

During its existence, the Institute has initiated and was a co-organizer of numerous   scientific meetings at various levels - international scientific conferences, "round tables" of experts, scientific seminars and other venues. The Institute regularly presents the results of its scientific research to the representatives of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, experts and researchers from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, International Association of Institutions for Regional Development "MAIRR" Institute for Trans-border Cooperation and general public area.

Publishing activity

A series of publications "European Integration: Ukrainian Dimension", launched in 2007, has currently 21 editions devoted to the issue of European integration course of Ukraine, the nature of the process of international integration and globalization.

In 2009 the Institute has registered periodicals - Collected Works "Geopolitics Ukraine: History and Modernity", with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine; this periodical is published twice a year. It was  assigned International Standard Serial Number ISSN, enabling the scientists of 130 countries use its publications.

In 2009 - 2013 the Institute prepared and published 11 collections of scientific research papers on issues of geopolitics of Ukraine and its integration into the EU and The program of Trans-border cooperation EINP "Hungary - Slovakia - Romania - Ukraine 2007-2013".

As for the fact of  the reorganization of TSU it was necessary to re-named  the periodical - "Ukraine Geopolitics: Past and Present" at The State Registration Service; it was decided to register the periodical as a joint international publication of UzhNU with universities in Hungary and Slovakia - scientific partners of Uzhhorod National University. To achieve this goal we sent letters with a proposal to establish a joint publication by signing the founding treaties and subsequent registration in the State Registration Service to foreign colleagues This will greatly advance the status of the collection.

The scientific work with students

"Student - fellow scientist" - this rule is the principle one for the staff of ESI of European Integration Studies in their work with young people. Totally, the  collections of scientific papers issued by the Institute in 2007-2013, contain more than 80 scientific articles  of the best students, masters and PhD students who were regular participants of various competitions. Some of them continue their post graduate studies.
