The purpose of the  Center of Sustainable Development is to promote the implementation of international programs and sustainable regional development, as well as intensifying the research activities of the university in this area.

Main tasks of the Center of Sustainable Development:

- dissemination of the principles of sustainable development and the best methods of local development;

- discussion of new conceptual theories of the sustainable development of society, its main characteristics and structural elements;

- promotion of independent research activities of universities in the sphere of sustainable development of the region;

- discussion of new theories and methods of analysis of the main indicators of sustainable development of the region;

- coverage and dissemination of the results of research, and projects in the field of sustainable regional development;

- the connection with the educational process, the involvement of the faculty, Ph.D. students, Master program students and Bachelor program students in solving important scientific and practical tasks in the field of sustainable regional development;

- monitoring and disseminating information at the regional level on the possibilities of international grants competitions, international programs and projects of international technical assistance that are aimed at sustainable regional development;

- creation of scientific and informational and methodological support of the Resource Center activities;

- and other tasks, which are determined additionally at the meeting of the Resource Center.

The main areas of activity of the Sustainable Development Center are:

- to participate in the competence in the preparation and implementation of the components of the target programs and projects in the region;

- to participate in the analysis of possible sources of funding, search for potential investors for the implementation of projects in the region, including through international technical assistance;

- to carry out educational activities through the implementation of projects and conducting training, seminars and other educational measures aimed at development, plans, programs, and proposals for the development of social, economic and structural redevelopment of the region;

- to promote scientific activity in the direction of regional development;

- to study modern theoretical approaches in the field of sustainable social development;

- to consider and to analyze case situations for local development;

- to arrange meetings with leading scientists, public scientific and communicative events and events aimed at disseminating scientific outlook, strengthening research in the field of sustainable regional development;

- to systematically develop, test, and preserve scientific and socially significant innovations, conditions for their provision and implementation into sustainable regional development;

- to  organize the participation of the Ph.D. students and students in competitions of scientific works and conferences on issues of sustainable development;

- to organize and hold conferences, roundtables, educational and training seminars, other forms of organization of research work on the issues of sustainable development;

- to provide information and consulting services on the preparation of a set of technical, economic and other necessary documentation for the project for participation in contests for grant assistance;

- to conduct research on topical issues of development of the region and local self-government bodies that are part of the region;

- to take part in the organization and conducting of training, preparation, retraining and professional development of specialists of local executive bodies and local self-government bodies in the field of regional development and local self-government;

- to establish cooperation with international organizations and foundations provides support in the preparation and implementation of international technical assistance projects aimed at the development of the region;

- to participate in the activity of advisory and working bodies on regional development issues;

- to develop on the instructions of local government development strategies, implementation of a comprehensive assessment of the territories;

- to collaborate with foreign regional development agencies and other non-state institutions (innovation centers, technology development bureaus, etc.) in using experience in the area of structural transformation and development;

- to perform other functions in accordance with the tasks assigned to it.
